Although allocated a works serial number, this 962C was actually built on the chassis that had been earmarked for 962-153. Completed in 1990, it was entrusted to the semi-privateer Joest Racing team. It was entered in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for Jonathan Palmer, Bob Wollek and Philippe Alliot with Blaupunkt backing. Sadly, an accident in practice prevented the car to take the start. Eventually rebuilt, 962-013 re-appeared at the 1993 Le Mans test. Wearing an all-white livery, it was equipped with the high-downforce, twin-element rear wing that had been developed by Norbert Singer. It was fifth fastest overall and placed first in the Category 2. For the race proper, 962-013 was fitted with a more conventional long-tail body that was liveried in the iconic FATurbo-Express colours. Entered by Joest Racing for Manuel Reuter, Frank Jelinski and ‘John Winter’, it started seventh but failed to finish due to an engine failure. The 1993 season marked the end of Group C racing and 962-013 was retired to the Joest Racing museum. Some 25 years later, it was sold by Reinhold Joest to a French historic racer. It was once again fitted with the ultimate, high-downforce aerodynamics package and painted in Blaupunkt colours. With support from Joest Racing, it was fielded from 2023 in the Historic Group C Championship by the owner with the very quick Ralf Kelleners as second driver.
