Spyker-Ferrari F8-VII
Spyker F1 today unveiled the car with which it hopes to make a substantial leap up the grand prix pecking order in 2007 – the Ferrari-powered F8-VII.
Although, on the surface, it looks fairly similar to last year's car, the bright orange machine is, in fact, a considerable departure from the Toyota-powered Midland M16, being the first car to bear the imprint of former Renault and Toyota star designer Mike Gascoyne and with the team having made the switch to Ferrari powerplants.
On the driving front, Christijan Albers has been retained while, alongside him, will be grand prix debutant and Japanese F3 champion Adrian Sutil. The Dutch outfit will be running as many as four test drivers over the course of the year, in the shape of former World Series by Renault ace Markus Winkelhock, GP2 star Adrian Valles, Malaysian A1GP pilot Fairuz Fauzy and, more controversially, F3 Euroseries frontrunner Giedo van der Garde. The former pairing will act as test and development drivers, with the latter duo fulfilling the role of test and Friday drivers.
Last year, Spyker F1 finished in tenth position in the constructors' championship, having acquired the Midland operation at Monza, with a best result of ninth for Tiago Monteiro in the Hungarian Grand Prix.
It looks very McLaren-esque

Minardi, Midland or Spyker -- only the "Superfund" remains the same. :)

I'd be concerned that the radiator inlets are smaller than Ferrari's, given they should be using the same engine
-
It looks a bit... orange...

Just a shame they kicked Monteiro out of the driver line up. He was definatly better than Albers. He wasnt dutch though:rolleyes:
-
Yeah. They will miss Monteiro, but they really thought they should honour midland's results: none!

Has there been any official news about their driver lineup for 2007? I suppose they're gonna retain Albers and get rid of Monteiro, but nothing's been confirmed yet AFAIK. They're the only team that hasn't done it (apart from Toro Rosso still not naming their test driver).

Spyker announced their confirmed driver line up a couple of months ago. Albers is retained and Monteiro is replaced with young Adrian Sutil. It's on all the various F1 websites if you wanna check for yourself - http://www.formula1.com/insight/team/183.html
STR still haven't officially confirmed any of their drivers yet, although it is widely thought that they'll just stick with Liuzzi and Speed for '07. Not sure why they've waited so late to announce the drivers, maybe just trying to keep Liuzzi and Speed on their toes and out of their comfort zones I suppose. There have been plenty of rumours about Sebastian Bourdais coming in, but the only way that will come off is if STR fork out a LOT of $$$s to buy him out of his Champcar contract with Newman-Haas, so I can't see that one coming off.

I wonder if it's just the light, but the Spyker is looking remarkably red at Silverstone...

Also, Adrian Sutil has reportedly binned the new car at the super-fast Copse Corner this morning, putting an early end to the week's shakedown test. Oops! Not the best start for the new car! :o

I know F1 is not about the looks, but I definetly liked the look of last year;s silver and orange Spyker over this one. I was kinda hoping for the other driver to be Doornbos so it would be a totally Dutch team - that would be kinda cool. I wish this team did better - I like The Netherlands as a country, and Spyker cars are kinda sweet - but it will be really hard for these guys to get anywhere in the standings. I have no idea how Minardi stuck around for so many years at the bottom and how they actually generated cash. I figured sponsors would stay away from low, low teams. I don't know what teams like this and Super Aguri are even doing in F1. What do they sit around at the beginning of they year and make their goal? Getting a point?

I'd say its the light. The whole car is lacking tone in the colour, so much so it looks fluro.

Spyker shoulda used silver and orange. It looked so good.
I do like the new car, especially the livery, they just need some silver in it.
