LS14
“While running a pair of 7.0-litre Chevrolet LS7 V8s in W16 formation mightn’t seem sensible, “it’s not as silly as it might sound,” Halstead reckons.
“I was after bulk horsepower. When you look at that aluminium motor, a fully-dressed 427 Corvette engine — which comes out of the box with 515 horsepower (379kW) — weighs 230 kilos.
So when you run two side by side, rolling them at 45 degrees as I’ve done, and then push them as close together as you possibly can to get the cranks only 10 inches apart, the width of the two engines together is just over a metre.
“I’m carrying a weight penalty of 230 kilos, but it gives me 1200 horsepower with full compliance. How else could you get that? With a massive turbocharger? That’s not the fun of having something with the brutal torque that this thing will have. And I have an extraordinarily low centre of gravity – I’ve put two of the heads effectively on the ground, along the crank line.”
Look at it. LOOK AT IT!!!!!!

does it fit underneath the bonnet?

Indeed, under what bonnet does it fit?

As much fun as that looks (and I really would like to see it running in something and to hear it at flat chat) the comments about the brutal torque sound a bit off. I'm pretty sure a supercharged 572 would come close to the numbers here while being easier to manage.
Still, this is much more awesome.

I'm curious about how it sounds.

I'm curious to see exhaust manifold routing for those two middle banks.
Also, this is awesome. Bacon level awesome. Yeah, you can make 1200s easily enough, but this is way beyond that.

Check out the link. It is going into a custom build. I think the bonnet will be designed to "fit over it". ;)

Looks like the blocks are mounted in opposing directions, so the cylinders don't line up - presumably that would be the same for the exhaust ports so the manifolds can intertwine.. could be fun.. I wonder if the pipes will have to run over the top and down the sides of the gearbox?

huh,,, I want to be there!!!
