I read years ago that the fastest 1/4 time for a horse is 20.8 seconds. That record may have been broken by now.
I am wondering what is the fastest 1/4 mile time is for a human? Or, if there is even such a recording done?

They call it the 400 meter dash.
Michael Johnson's world record is 43.18 seconds at 18 mph.
Add another fraction of a second for the additional 2.3 meters he would have to travel and you have your figure.
However, with the help of some steel and nitromethane, humans can do the 1320 in three seconds and change.
400 meters, Michael Johnson, 43,18 seconds.

EDIT: busted, too slow :D
Thanks for the info.
43.18 is good for a person. As mentioned before, I was able to do a 33 second 1/4 mile on a 10-speed bicycle. And a person running has no advantage of gears and tires. :D
I should have ran a 1/4 mile back when I did the bike test. Too late... I'm not doing it now!
All I have to go by is my one-mile run in 7 min., 31 secs. in high school. And the 100 yard dash in 12.9 secs in Jr. High.
I split a 51.high the first leg of a 4x400 last season (which isn't really that fast). I just wanted to take the opportunity to brag since something semi-track related popped up on the forum. Thanks, Fleet, for the opportunity!

You might as well brag while you can!
