Italy who?
For the record, Van Nistelrooy was most certainly not off-side. A defender can't put a player off-side by moving behind the line. Only an attacker can do that to prevent off-side, but he has to remain there.
Apparently Panucci was watching developments while inside the goal....and stayed there.
Didn't really get a long enough view of it to see all that Wouter. I stand corrected for now?

After last night I don't seem to care as much. I'll be in Le Mans when our boys will beat France. That will be exciting!
Was a good night yesterday. Didn't even see the match, homework sucks. All my mates kept texting me from the pub...:o

I play hockey and there are no offsides ;) It's just easier (just for the record)
If an attacker can put himself out of the game by moving himself over the backline, effectively nulling the offside. Why can't a defender do the same in the opposite effect?
Just out on a whim here, isn't offside between the players involved and the defenders/target goal? Thus putting himself behind the goal line cuts him out of the "offside" effect.
And a player who isn't considered to be 'active' can't be offside, at the refs discretion. The Netherlands player was just standing round. May be a refs bad judgment but... thats the way it went.
Netherlands Germany.
if its anything like the world wars the dutch will get flanked by the teutons
on a lighter, less offensive note, i still can't get over the fact that germany's top two scorers in the WC were polish, nationalism truely has died after what people saw what it can do over the last few hundred years. nationalism got abused and now has a bad name, just like communism. god damn it

It was deemed that Panucci was pushed over the line by the keeper and deliberately did not re-enter the field. That according to the rule book seems to have suspended the off-side position.
Yes it was quite a game last night. By far the best game the Netherlands have played under van Basten. I can't even name a player that didn't play good. Look at Engelaar: first ever game at an European Championship and he was excellent. Not to mention the performances of Boulahrouz, van Bronckhorst, Sneijder and of course van der Sar. First time since long I actually enjoyed watching the Netherlands play.
Oh Lord, have mercy on those Dutch people now in France.....

Truth. Congrats BTW, I really enjoyed your team's game today. Hope ours will go well, too at last :)
They're putting something in the water over in the Netherlands.

we call it beer
If Germany gets taken out, The Netherlands is my team... They should let Rumania win and have France and Italy leave the cup!
The Netherlands have been sensational so far this tournament.
Therefore, they are guaranteed not to win.
If they can beat France, Italy will win the competition.
Don't know jack about soccer, but if I was a betting man, I'd put my money on Portugal.
Netherlands is looking fantastic.
I can't not agree with that.
Fantastic game by Turkey, I never expected them to win after they were losing 2-0.
I'm just glad that they are televising the games here in the states. There is nothing better than European soccer on for an entire month. For a guy who might watch an hour of TV in a week, this is the one thing that can turn me into a couch potato.

are those 45 minutes halves being broadcast without a single commercial break and if not where do they squeeze them in?
are those 45 minutes halves being broadcast without a single commercial break and if not where do they squeeze them in?
They broadcast the halves entirely with commercial breaks before the game, during half, and after.

so there is really 45 minutes of uninterrupted view? What a luxury....for the USA
so there is really 45 minutes of uninterrupted view? What a luxury....for the USA
They managed to get it right, I know. World cup was broadcast the same way in 06.
Australia has 45 minutes of uninterrupted view for each half of football (plus injury time :D). Some matches are even on a free to air television station called SBS. This means you don't even have to pay a broadcasting company or cable/pay T.V company to watch the match. You just have to pay for the electricity which powers the T.V and pay for the television itself, if you bought a T.V recently.
Watching Italy play is so damn annoying. They play well, but they're on the floor 50% of the game, just like the Argentinians.
We rock!
We rock!
You do, but you should have lost and let Italy and France leave together. Italy making it to the next round might bite Holland in the ass in the future. You gave them a beating already, but soccer is a funny sport...
To be honest, I'd like to see Italy-Netherlands final.

To be honest, I don't think the Italians have been that bad in terms of diving this tournament. Certainly no worse than a good few other teams around. Besides, even if watching Italy is annoying, ANYTHING has to be better than watching the French! They were absolutely awful all competition, and thoroughly deserved to finish rock bottom of their group.

This is impossible, as they are in the same side of the draw.
They can meet in the semis.

I only said that it would be great :)
BTW, I liked our team's play today so much against Sweden.
Poor Guus, now he will be against his fellow country men...
Poor Guus, now he will be against his fellow country men...
An unenviable position, surely.
it was so funny to see Portugal struggling to win and the brazilian commentators supporting Portugal thinking that was the brazilian national team on the pitch
I don't have nothing against Portugal, but is good to see those commentators having some moments of disgrace:p

Portugal has (had) a Brazilian manager, who will now move over to Chelsea, and they the Brazis speak the same language....
Netherlands Croatia, or Netherlands Germany. Just can't see Italy beating Netherlands or Germany. Spain...really don't know cause they either turn up or they don't.
Russia is taking care of Netherlands tomorrow ;)
my bet for the final will be Italy against Germany. They have a habit of screwing up the initial round and then return full steam during the knock out stages,
and yes Niko, I wouldn't be surprised if the Russians will cause a stir tomorrow.
