A little update on my precious..

After season ended last year I started to look over her to find out what had to be done with her.. There was some visible rust bubbles and other things that i felt that had to be sorted out. I started the search for some professional help on rust welding, since the problems was quite big in both sills and fender bottoms.
After overseeing some major rust welding jobs done by so called "professionals" locally i was mildly disturbed by the lack of good work, for a lot of money. I ended up with contacting one of the better in Europe on the matter of the subject and the specific car type, the 105-series Alfa. It started out first as "what to do with this" questioning, and it ended up with my decision to bring the car to the guy and make him do a full restoration of the car. Since the specific cars are popular in the classic car market, they are worth the restoration you put down in them. So I went to Netherlands in Nowember 2007 to let him do the works this winter. Since the car is now finished and ready to be picked up I thought it would be nice to put a little update in, with some following pictures from the process.

First with some photos from my trip down. Normal nice weather of Norway of course.. The first snow had to come the night before i was going on the road with the trailer of course... Last picture of two Donkevoort owners who I met on the ferry, they where quite upset with the weather to of course..

After I had come down, and me and the restorer had looked over the car, we found out that it was more problems with rust than first thought and it was looking more and more like a pretty heavy project.

Following some nice pictures of cut out parts and rusty door sills.
The whole front subframe and inner fenders with suspension mounting was replaced with a subframe from a donor car.

The front strengthening beam was also replaced with a rigid 25x25mm steel rod.
More pictures of the completed door sills. And completed fender bottoms.

Looking good, well worth the effort.

Clearly the roll cage was holding it together

Had her on the rolling road in NL before picking her up this weekend.
She did good on the test, and looks as good as I barely could imagine.

    And what a beautiful sound

Nice work Fred, its going to be too good to race, engine sounds soooooooo good mate. How come your running a spare fuel pump?. Is it set up that way incase the primary fuel pump fails. Also are the front brakes Volvo 240 4 spot calipers? and finally how do you find brake feel with the booster on the M/C ? Love the coil over also very nice

I bet you cant wait to hit the track mate

Don't confuse the donor car to my car now!

As I have learned you need to have two pumps, one to fill the catch tank and one to bring the fuel to the engine.. I am no expert on this yet, as it has been set up for me...

The brakes on the donor car is a made-up Hi-Spec kit for these Alfas.
Alu 4 pot calipers and a nice disk/alu-hub kit:New Alfaholics 4-Pot Brake Kit!

The same kit is going on my car now. I drive with the old fashion whisbone suspension, and not coilovers. For now at least.

The brakebooster is going out now also, as the new engine don't have a spare vacuum for the booster. High capacity pump is going in instead.
Breakbooster is for girls.. And Hugo McReis..
