UCP Awards 2009: Car of the Year [Nominations]

A 2009 model should count for the 2009 Car of the Year. I highly doubt one could have been had in 2008 aside from maybe the very first which was delivered to Jay Leno in mid-December '08. It's an '09 car.

Well the ZR1 was in the awards last year.

I don't have a problem with any car in production in 2009 being eligible, but others do, and if the ZR1 already had a shot at the award, should it get another one? I mean don't you only have one shot at winning?

Well are we voting for the car that was best suited to the way the world was in 2009, or the best new car introduced in 2009?

It's basically been decided by consensus and precedent to be the latter.

I would then say the ZR1 is ineligible - any car that's already been in the awards should not be reallowed.

Probably not. it wont even get my vote. But its like having your ralph nader's or Ron Paul's on the ballot. Pointless, but at least a recognition that there is other pretty good stuff out there that in other circumstances may be a viable choice.

An equinox is a great, practical, economical, good looking, affordable, comfortable car which leads or is very close to the top of its class in every regard. Also i believe its engine won or was nominated for an engine of the year award. And its a new model for 2009. I thought it deserved at least some recognition of the fact that its a good car that most of us could afford.
