Assume that you have some Euro's to spend, which classic car you would buy?
Is it: A Ferrari 400 (valued at 25.000)
A Mondial ( same price)
An E-type (same price till 34.000)
A Maserati Quattroporte (1981 model)
A Lotus Esprit
Ok guys, fire!

i dont know esprit is considered "classic"... btw i'll take that one.
Reach for the moon! Even if you miss, you'll still be among the stars!
Depends on the E-type An orignal straight 6 XK-E droptop A V12 at a pinch
Also the Espirt, I'd put the original a close second but the latter V8s abehdin the Maser
"A woman without curves is like a road without bends, you might get to your destination quicker but the ride is boring as hell'
Hmmm, it would be a tough choice between Mondial and QP....
If you have kids, go for the QP.
If I had extra 25.000 € to spend, I'd get myself a nice Lancia Delta Integrale.
Not from a practical point of view, as it's probably the most expensive to run and maintain, the 400. I find it's angular lines very attractive and the Ferrari V12 doesn't hurt this car's appeal either.
It's beautiful, sounds great, seats 4, and it's a bargain. The Ferrari for me.

I agree with Matra on this. I didn't like the gaping grille of the V12.Originally Posted by Matra et Alpine

The E-type absolutly!
"Religious belief is the “path of least resistance”, says Boyer, while disbelief requires effort."
If it's a Series I E-Type, then the Jag.
However there's something of 70's luxo barge faded greatness, in the Quattroporte Series III, that makes it quite appealing.
Lack of charisma can be fatal.
Visca Catalunya!
Probably either the Maser or the Espirit and I would probably end up with the Lotus because I love Lotuses and Masers of that era are supposidly pretty crappy.
Second for the Lotus, but the Q-port is tempting. I would rather find a Maserati Mexico or Khamsin (sp?) just for the even more unusual factor. An S1 Espirit would just be so sool, though. E types seem a little common to me, almost cliche, even though they are stunning.
Neither Ferrari would tempt me very much, even less so the Mondial.
Thanks all, your views are interesting; I rather not buy that Porsche, but I need a car that I can regularly drive. Here are some pictures of the cars that I have sourced. They are all around the 25.000 euro in general.
I'd certainly get the QP.It is a very nice and comfortable ride while it is still able to perform fairly good. But it has it's downsides:Originally Posted by D'ARTOIS

3) large engine gives large fuel usage
4) bit outdated everything, but since you look for a classic car anyway it shouldnt really be a problem
but :
1) great ride
2) definately a eye-turner when driving aound
3)classy and luxurious, yet sporty.
4) Enormous interior space...
You should make your mind up for yourself, but i liked having a ride in one Also if the QP has the same value as the others,25.000€, it seems a bit steep of a price.

I can only imagine what the maintainance and upkeep cost-realities would prove to be on any of those - especially if they're expected to provide regular, reliable transport. Good luck!Originally Posted by D'ARTOIS
Drakkie: You are right: this QP costs only 11.900 euro but does not have apk;
More expensive is the silver 400i: at euro 27.500;
The series I E-type requires euro 34.500
The Mondial goes between euro 19.000 and 24.000,-
The Lotus is around Euro 16.000
It is still not easy: all cars have their pro's and con's: I like the Mondial a lot,
I had one in 1997 but had to sell since it was an impractical car.
Also the Mondial needs some time to heat up; hence Ferrari's problem with the distribution. Change of belts every 40.000 km, a costly nightmare since the engine needs to be removed.
But no better car in the mountains!
The Jag's have their own problem: warming up quickly. In today's traffic a problem.
Is then the Lotus the most efficient choice?
I heard that the gearbox was a bit poor, however im not sure. google it and you'll be fine. Anyway that seems pretty annoying in current day traffic (especially near the "big" cities) with their constant traffic jams and superdangerous driving...Originally Posted by D'ARTOIS
