Lawl. They're not that rare. or even a feature of Subaru these days - the new Legacy, Impreza and Forester won't have them.

They're really safe, I hear. The I read the monthly magazine for Subaru and it said the Legacy and other Subarus have tube frames within the frame or something, requiring extra training for Jaws of Life personel? Can anyone confirm this?
Not all that uncommon. The 1995 Acura TL has frameless windows.
Its a bit of a tradition of Subaru's. But its fairly common in other cars. My mates '89 Nissan Bluebird has them.
I surfed into a fire brigade webpage that discusses this very thing (reinforcing inserts of solid boron steel in Subaru B pillars, including Imprezza) and it cautioned other rescue providers that their existing JoL's might not be powerful enough to cut through the pillar!
Mazda Atenza / 6 has timing chain so no belt replacement at 100k
Some models have Bose sound system with spare wheel sub and reversing camera.
Nice car to drive and reliable but the 2.3 is a bit thirsty.
Legacy is nice to drive and reasonably reliable but being a boxer expensive if anything does go wrong especially twin turbo model.
Legacy is third most stolen in NZ behind WRX and BMW 3 series. Insurers know this.
The Camry is probably to most sensible option.
What is your mom leaning toward Spastik?
I searched for the page I referred to, which I saw about 2005, and found it was from 'firehouse.com'. Unfortunately the full article is now 'subscribers only' which is a pity as it contained comprehensive detail and pics. However I did find an online extract of it for you (first post, possibly what you've already seen?) which includes an interesting and self-evident picture
Saab92x.com / Saabaru B Pillars vs. the jaws of life
I think its introduction dates on 'certain model' Subarus back into MY2002, and is obviously the reason why they achieved those outstanding side-impact ratings
Mums not really set on anything yet, but I'm trying to sell her on the idea of a 2001 BMW 728i...cause that'd be really sweet!
