Yes, I have been teasing you in my avatar for some time now.
The car you see in my avatar is named Julia.
Julia started her life in 1964, and back then a 1600 ccm engine supplied her power. And her given name is Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 GT. She didn't live long as a road going car, unfortunately for her. Sometime in the mid seventies I believe, the owner converted her to be a race car. The specific story I don't know, but she has been used for vintage racing and some endurance racing in Scandinavia for the last decades. The last upgrade on her was to get her homologated for Period G, according to the FIA appendix K. The period G is from 1.1.1966 -> 31.12.1971. The appendix K is the "rule book" for all vintage/historic racing under FIA. The engine is now a 2000 ccm engine, which have been carefully tuned to be a good and reliable engine. She pushes out about 190 bhp. The rear end was also to be set back to period spec, with a 75% locking lsd, and some other things. She is now homologated as a 1971 2000 GTV.
The wide arches that are on the car today, is not very common. I have not seen them on any other car, and they are called "Group 2" wide-arches. If anyone have pics of another car with the same ones, or history/knowledge, it's highly appreciated. They are approved in the homologation papers, but I have yet to see them on another car.
I have always liked historic racing, and I had since last summer been on the lookout for a historic race car. Luckily I stumbled over the add for Julia. Though being a guy that liked old Lotus' and Fords, it was frightening to take a step into the Italian camp. I have survived..
After 2 days I had a solid deal with the owner. Some Belgian and Swiss interests was turned down. The pick up went almost as smooth as possible, and she was put in storage for awaiting upgrades. The upgrades are not much, besides a new FIA approved seat, and some new wheels. The wheels that followed the car, was old Revolution wheels (often used on Ford Escorts) so to give her a more historic look, I have supplied her with some 8 x 13 " GTam replica wheels. After putting them on her today, I am very pleased with the look. I fear that if I have chosen other period correct wheels, they would be to narrow, with these archers on.
